Details:
Description: Sequencing of RNA (RNA-Seq) is the latest method to assess global gene expression because it can be done on any species. This is a 4-day workshop for biologists who are doing or plan on doing RNA-Seq experiments and would like to learn how to analyze their data. It will cover experimental design, evaluation of sequencing quality, genome alignment, gene count extraction, differential gene expression analysis and downstream data mining. It will also include discussions of what to do if your species lacks gene models and/or a genome.
Audience: Graduate students, post-docs, and researchers in bioinformatics
Prerequisites: You must have taken either (1) Data Carpentry for Genomics OR (2) Intro to R AND Intro to Linux & Biocluster/HPC before attending this workshop. We are offering a Data Carpentry for Genomics workshop 2 weeks before this workshop (see here). If you cannot make this workshop and have not already taken one of the two listed options, then please email us at hpcbiotraining@igb.illinois.edu for alternative options. Please do not show up to this workshop without knowledge in the basics of R, Linux, and high performance computer (HPC) usage, as it will slow the workshop down for others. If you feel that you already possess these skills then please email us at hpcbiotraining@igb.illinois.edu.
Dates: March 20, 21, 22, & 23
Times: 9am - 5pm (There will be an hour break for lunch. Lunch not provided)
Cost: $200.00
Payment Details: Payment is not needed at time of registration. Payment information will be sent along with registration confirmation.
Registration: Space is limited to 25 participants per workshop. We will prioritize participants that have the most urgent need to learn these skills, and then by order of registration.
